When the school year is over, many kids are happy to get out of classes but sad about leaving their friends. At the same time, parents may dread finding ways to entertain their kids during the summer period, especially if they’re not going to camp. One great solution to this is to encourage kids to work on throwing a backyard summer party. This will allow them to see and catch up with their friends, and allowing them to plan it themselves will keep them busy. Plus, by having the kids plan the party themselves, the party can be affordable at any budget.
First, encourage your kids to think about food and drinks and to learn how to prepare them. Don’t let them spend a ton of money on chips, soda, and ice cream. Instead, let them look up recipes and prepare their own lemonade, popsicles, and sandwiches. This cuts costs, but more importantly, it teaches them valuable life skills. Encourage your kids to be creative and come up with interesting dishes to share. They’ll remember the experience and lessons long after the party is over.
For entertainment, ask your kids to think of party games and other summer fun. If you have a pool, great, just make sure that a qualified adult is around to supervise any swimming, since drowning is a common and horrible occurrence. If you have a kiddie pool, use that. Or, better yet, set up sprinklers and encourage the kids to run through them. You can get cheap water guns and balloons if you’re comfortable with the mess they might make. Most importantly, put your kids in charge of the decision.
Finally, let your kids think of fun party favors and decorations themselves. For an affordable and clever party favor, they may decide on waterproof stickers, like those sold by Custom Sticker Makers. These can be enjoyed during the party and after. Decorations can be crepe paper, printed cut-outs, or nothing at all. Playing music provides atmosphere and starts the party goers dancing. All of this can be done affordably with just a little effort.
Your kids will never forget the awesome backyard party that they help to plan and execute themselves. Parents will enjoy paying less and watching their children learn and grow. This summer, let your little ones throw backyard bash their friends will really love!
